Stroud Choir – serious about enjoying our singing!
The Thames Head Singers is a friendly and sociable, chamber choir of about 30 singers based in Stroud, Gloucestershire. Our repertoire is broad, covering renaissance to 21st century compositions and including sacred music, classical, jazz, folk and pop arrangements. Occasionally, pieces are commissioned specifically for us.
We generally perform three concerts a year and recent programmes have covered composers from Byrd and Britten to George Shearing, Will Todd and Paul McCartney. We also sing for weddings and other special occasions.
There are usually two social events a year where the focus is on food, drink and conversation rather than music but members often get together for small, informal practice sessions or to meet for a drink after regular Tuesday evening rehearsals.
Choir members’ experience levels vary between those who have been involved in choral music all their lives to relative newcomers and additional support can usually be arranged where needed.
Our Musical Director is Andrew Hopwood an established singing teacher and vocal coach with over 30 years’ experience as a professional singer. Rehearsals can be challenging as well as fun and we occasionally arrange extra workshop days to prepare specific pieces or improve our skills and technique.
We do have some spaces for new members so if you are interested, please get in touch.
